  1. Hey guys; another great episode! I really enjoyed X-Men first class as well. I also agree with you that Fassbender as Magneto is probably the best thing since sliced cheese.

A couple things bothered me about this movie, however.

For one, the scene at the beginning where a young Magneto kills everyone except Shaw, (I also thought the kid was a terrible actor).

Also, I agree that the scene where Mystique is giving out code names is cringe-inducing.

One thing you guys didn’t quite touch on in the podcast though, is the scene where Magneto is choking Emma Frost, and her crystal form begins to crack. The reason this scene bugged me so much is because when Emma Frost is in this form, she is supposed to be made of diamonds. Seeing her “diamonds” crack under the pressure of a metal bed post was a tad bit hard to watch.

Overall, however, I think this is the 3rd best X-Men film, (now that Days of Future Past is out), and one of the better Marvel movies period. James McAvoy, Fassbender, and the entire cast did a tremendous job with this movie, (minus young magneto).

I’d love to see what you guys think of some of the shittier comic movies, (Green Lantern, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance). Anyway, keep up the good work with your new podcast guys! Really loving it.

  2. Of the X-Men movies I’ve seen First Class is easily my favorite (I wouldn’t mind at all if the series changed gears and just became “Magneto VS ” type movies, Fassbender is amazing)… and a great commentary track once again guys.

As an aside, I’m surprised when I hear people say that the X-men Origins: Wolverine movie is worse than The Last Stand. I can’t say it’s anywhere near as good as it should/could have been, I do think there are some fun things in it. I think defining the relationship between Logan and Victor so explicitly is in itself a grave mistake, but aside from that I did really enjoy Liev Schreiber in the role. I also HATED the movie’s treatment of Deadpool… BUT I did enjoy seeing the brief scenes with Ryan Reynolds playing Wade Wilson pre-ruining of the character.
So yeah, it’s not good. But placing it below The Last Stand is a bit more harsh than I think it deserves… I can sit through Origins. I can not sit through even 30 minutes of The Last Stand.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see The Wolverine or Days of Future Past yet. I had high hopes for The Wolverine, after hearing it was based on my favorite Wolverine storyline… something tells me it’s not going to be very faithful, but at least people seem to think it’s decent.

Can’t wait to hear your commentaries for any other X-movies you guys decide to do. Keep up the awesome work.

  3. Sorry for the Double-Post, but I also think it bears mentioning that at the very least X-men Origins: Wolverine DID provide us the basis for the greatest Wolverine-centric video game yet to exist in our reality.
Oddly enough, the narrative in the game kinda does the ‘Origins’ storyline interspersed with very ‘Days of Future Past’ inspired elements. The opening and closing cinematic scenes are some awesome Sentinel fighting goodness if I remember correctly.

  4. Not a big fan of James McAvoy as Professor X. I can understand that Xavier was a different man when we was young but just don’t see him like he is being played. Fassbender does a great job and his German is spot on thats whats keeping me watching the movie.
